I was drawn to the sinuous line of the front blue fender set against the white of a restored 1952 Chevy utility van. After seeing this vehicle, my research began and the remainder of the triptych grew out of the lines defined by that fender and its three pieces of aluminum ornamentation:
The first panel, "1952 Chevy: It Shows a Beautiful Fender" flows into the middle panel, "V-6: With Power to Spare." The third panel is "4 Speed Hydromatic: First Gear was the Stump Puller."
The goal was to maintain a relationship between the three panels, while relaxing the rules of geometry and adding another color or shade with each transition. The quilting followed this same line of thought, moving from lines stitched a half inch apart to more organic lines and the addition of bubbles in the third panel.
The panels hang with about one inch between each to allow their individuality and at the same time the connection between each to be readily apparent.
